Winter driving

Several of the challenges are to make winter cards, and we had about an inch of snow for Christmas this year which is already gone.  For Wisconsin, we have been having a very mild winter; however we had some slippery roads with some freezing temps and light drizzle.  This morning my daughter went to go to the gym to work out before she had a doctor appointment and she was surprised when she did a 180.  Luckily, there weren't many cars on the road since she was out around 6am and she didn't hit anything or do any damage.  I met my parents mid-way to get my son and they saw a semi that had slip off the road and flipped over on the major highway.  Hopefully everyone stays safe with traveling especially when there is "black ice" and unusual weather out there.

One last day

My son is staying with my parents during his winter break so I gave my Mother the sympathy cards for Christmas which she thought was perfect.  I took them back and plan to re-give them to her because I usually add the sentiments to the inside when I send them so that I can customize them; however, she would like the sentiments included which makes sense.  So I am working on that tonight for her and I had a chance to do one more using Jen's sketch for this week.

Merry Christmas

Sorry that I haven't had a chance to post in quite some time.  I have had some cards done, but I have been working and then doing family Christmas activities so I have missed deadlines this week.  I felt fortunate to spend time with family though.  We went to go visit my mother-in-law and she admitted that she had been having leg and arm pain the day before and she let me look at her leg and I found a egg size hard lump so we made her go have it be evaluated afraid that it could be a blood clot.  She first wanted to go to Urgent Care, but they didn't haven't an Ultrasound so we did have to go the ER where they needed to call in a tech because it was the holiday weekend so it took quite sometime.  She was upset that we were all sitting in the ER "wasting" our time and I kept reassuring her that we were concerned about her and that it was alright.  Needless to say that by the time we got home it was 10:50pm and I had to make a pasta dish to go to the next family event for lunch the next day.  So it was exhausting!  Luckily there was no blood clot and everyone has been fine.  I almost fell asleep in church today, but otherwise all is good.

Count down

I can't believe that it is the 13th already, and I am just starting on sending out my Christmas cards.  I have made quite a few, but it is getting the notes and the pictures together.  My husband and I are making sure we have our Christmas list complete and have everything covered so that I can do some shopping on Thursday night with a friend.  The days just don't seem long enough....but then we would find even more that we would want to do. I need an elf.

All I want

I worked last night....and it was a rough one.  I can't get into ALL of the specifics, but one unfortunate thing is that when I was making my first round on my patients I found my first patient had passed away.  It's not that I was surprised, but it is not the most pleasant way to start your shift.  Then I ended my shift with family members not aware that this had occurred showing up, and wondering where was Dad?  So I stayed up to work on a card for Tiddly Ink which is to make a sexy card.  I'm trying to shift gears, but I'm not sure it is working.  I am hoping I will be able to get a little sleep since this is just the start of a four day stretch for me.  It makes me appreciate my family.

Mother-in-law's birthday

Yet another, December birthday is my mother-in-law on the 16th.  It is difficult when these birhdays come so close to Christmas because it's hard to fit in two celebrations so the poor person many times has a combined holiday/birthday party.  My mother-in-law lives alone and will be 88 years old.  She lives about 60 miles away from us and my sister-in-law who is about 10 miles away from us.  We are trying to convince her to move closer to us and to get a senior apartment so she wouldn't have all the yard work and house maintenance, but she is rather fiesty which has kept her going this long.  Bugaboo just came out with this new image which I thought would be perfect for the front of her birthday card.  I also used their Santa freebie for my second card.  My third card is using this weeks Mojo sketch and the Colour Q scheme for a sympathy card.

Santa girl

Torico has this adorable image that I have been anxious to color, and finally did it.  She has a sample on her blog that she did of the dress in ivory which looks exquisite.  I was going for a more traditional look and trying to fit this card in for the Colour Create Challenge of red, green and white with snowflakes.  I found this embroidered buttons with snowflakes that I thought worked well using this months SFYTT sketch.

What it is all about

Mo Manning has this image, "In the Manger" which I think gives us the true meaning of Christmas.  I find it precious to see this adorable angel peering in the manger at baby Jesus.  Mo's Challenge this week is for the "The Great Outdoors" but what was the stable, but an outdoor barn.  It was more primitive than the way any or us would want to give birth to our child especially now with these fancy birthing suites we have.  I work at a hospital, and know that they were putting chocolates on the mother's pillow after the birth of the baby just like a hotel, but had to lock up the candy because it was disappearing.  I think Mary wanted warmth and food which isn't too much to ask for.
My second card is another sympathy card for Mom using the colors of the Play Date Cafe.
